Magic Player Rewards Program Sideboard Staff The DCI announced today that the current Legend Membership Program would be discountinued and replaced with the Magic Player Rewards Program. The new program is very similar to an airline frequent player program - those more DCI sanctioned tournaments that you play in, the more benefits you get. This is a good reason to encourage local organizers to run sanctioned tournaments. Anyone who signs up for the program (which is completely free) will also get access to their online match history without paying anything. Current Legend members are being sent a Gaea's Cradle to compensate for whatever fees they may have paid for Legend Membership, not realizing that online match histories will now be available for free. Below is a copy of the letter that the DCI has mailed to all current Legend members. Legend Membership has been our vehicle for providing our most dedicated Magic: the Gathering players special benefits and access to information for a long time, and we thank you for your support. We believe that some of these benefits, however, would make the Magic tournament system better overall if they reached deeper into the Magic player community. For example, making online match histories available to more players helps us make sure all our ratings data is as accurate as possible. As we move to make some of these key Legend benefits more available, we have decided to discontinue Legend membership sales and renewals, effective February 28, 2001. The benefits you've paid for, including home-delivery of The Sideboard, will continue until your Legend membership expires. Online match histories, however, will be much more widely available under the new plan. In an effort to make up for this benefit being extended more broadly, we've included a premium Gaea's Cradle with this letter. You will also be grandfathered into the Magic Player Rewards, a new program we are developing that rewards DCI members for what they already do: play in DCI sanctioned tournaments. Our goal is to have as many countries as possible participating in this program. A complete list of participating countries, will be available on the Magic Player Rewards signup page (coming soon). This free system gives registrants access to their online match history provides token and premium cards to sanctioned tournament players for participation benchmarks they achieve: For every five reported tournaments a player has listed in the DCI database, he/she receives two random never-before-seen token cards; and For every 20 reported tournaments a player has listed, he/she receives a premium Wasteland card. More details about this new plan will be available on the web soon. As a Legend member grandfathered into this new program, all sanctioned events you have participated in since January 1, 2001 will count toward your Magic Player Rewards benchmarks. (No Magic Player Reward benchmarks will be awarded for any events included in the DCI database prior to January 1, 2001.) If you have already participated in more than five DCI sanctioned events this year, you can expect to receive your first set of token cards in our summer mailing. We thank you again for your participation in DCI sanctioned events and your support of Legend membership. As always, we encourage you to send us your comments or suggestions to dci@wizards.com regarding these program changes, and on how we can improve our service to you through Magic Player Rewards.
